WhiteClothes (ホワイトクロス), the free high-difficulty command RPG from solo developer Mokomu, is getting a substantial second act on 30 October. The sequel DLC and a major version 2.0 update will push the planned total play time to around 80 hours.1

A bigger adventure for a free RPG

The DLC, titled WhiteClothes Purify!, follows the original story and brings it to a conclusion. It adds new skills, passive abilities, equipment and characters, including Shiratama, while tougher enemies are intended to keep the turn-based battles demanding.1

The expansion also adds a system that lets players brainwash most field NPCs and call them in as servants during battles. Their abilities and a new catalogue turn that idea into an additional collection goal rather than a one-off story gag.1

The DLC is priced at ¥1,050, while the base game remains free. The developer estimates roughly 30 to 40 hours for the original game and around 80 hours with the DLC included.1

What version 2.0 changes

The free version 2.0 update is aimed at both accessibility and challenge. It adds selectable difficulty, improves the user interface and strengthens presentation, while also introducing a deliberately punishing “Do M” mode for players who enjoy the original game’s harsher edges.1

WhiteClothes launched on Steam in 2023 and has built a “Very Positive” user-review rating, with 93 per cent of 174 reviews positive at the time of the announcement.1 Its appeal is fairly clear: the game mixes classic turn-based party tactics, formation bonuses, weapon-based skill discovery and a deliberately demanding difficulty curve.1

Both the DLC and version 2.0 update are scheduled for 30 October on PC via Steam.2

Our opinion

This is the sort of free-game update that earns attention by adding a proper second chapter rather than merely bolting on a few cosmetic extras. WhiteClothes Purify! appears to finish the story, expand the systems and almost double the expected play time, while version 2.0 gives newcomers a softer entry point and veterans a nastier challenge. The £10-ish expansion price will still depend on how much of those promised 80 hours feels meaningful, but the plan is considerably more ambitious than a routine patch.
