Persona 4 Revival previews its mystery in a new story trailer
Atlus confirms an 18 February 2027 launch for its Persona 4 remake, with MAPPA animated cutscenes and a new English voice cast.
The Midnight Channel is switching back on. Atlus has released a new story trailer for Persona 4 Revival, its remake of the 2008 role-playing game, and confirmed that the mystery will arrive on 18 February 2027.
Persona 4 Revival will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC with Game Pass and PC through Steam. It is available to pre-order now.
A familiar mystery gets a new coat of paint
The original Persona 4 follows a teenager who moves to the rural town of Inaba and becomes caught up in a string of mysterious disappearances. Alongside a group of friends, the protagonist investigates the Midnight Channel — a strange broadcast that appears on television during rainy nights.
The remake’s new trailer revisits that central mystery while showing updated character models, environments and animated scenes. Atlus has not yet revealed every change to the original structure, but the footage suggests a more modern presentation for the investigation, school-life and turn-based combat systems that defined Persona 4.
MAPPA handles the animated scenes
Animation studio MAPPA is working on all of the remake’s animated cutscenes. The studio is known internationally for series including Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man and Attack on Titan: The Final Season.
Persona 4 Revival will also feature a completely new English voice cast. Atlus has retained the original Japanese performances while introducing new English actors for the remake.
From Persona 4 to Persona 4 Golden
Persona 4 originally launched on PlayStation 2 in 2008 before receiving an expanded PlayStation Vita version called Persona 4 Golden in 2011. The game later inspired spin-offs including Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
The remake follows Persona 3 Reload, Atlus’ modern remake of Persona 3, which launched in 2024 before arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal helped turn the wider series into one of Atlus’ biggest global properties.
Our opinion
Persona 4 is a particularly good candidate for a remake because its ideas remain strong but its original presentation is showing its age. The mystery, friendships and oddball humour still work; the visual technology and some of the older systems are less persuasive.
The important thing is that Atlus does not polish away the game’s small-town identity. Persona 4 is not simply Persona 5 with fewer skyscrapers. Its appeal comes from the slower rhythm, the strange intimacy of Inaba and a cast that feels like a group of people who accidentally became detectives.
MAPPA’s involvement should make the animated cutscenes a highlight, while the new English cast gives the remake room to establish its own voice rather than imitating performances that fans have spent years memorising.
Persona 4 Revival launches on 18 February 2027. If Atlus can modernise the presentation without turning Inaba into another glossy metropolitan playground, this could be the remake the series’ most human story deserves.
