NTE reveals a God knows... cover for Version 1.4

Neverness to Everness will add its cover of God knows... alongside Akane Rin's playable debut in the second half of Version 1.4.

Characters from NTE: Neverness to Everness in a colourful fantasy city

NTE: Neverness to Everness is adding a new cover of “God knows...” in the second half of Version 1.4, with the song arriving alongside the playable debut of Akane Rin on 21 October. The game’s official account announced the news in a special movie, according to 4Gamer’s report.1

The track is billed as “God knows... (NTE cover version)”. Akane Rin provides the vocals in character, with voice actress Ikumi Hasegawa credited for the performance. The original song is best known as an insert song from the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but this is a new cover made for NTE rather than a straight re-release of the original recording.1

What is changing in Version 1.4

The cover will be implemented as part of the second half of Version 1.4, scheduled for 21 October. Akane Rin will also become playable in that update. 4Gamer describes her as a character who forms the band Neko Tori!!!! with the protagonist and Nana in a side story, giving the song a direct connection to the game’s ongoing event narrative.1

The first half of the event update began on 30 September under the title “Nameless Prayer”. Its earlier side-story content added a cover of MyGO!!!!!’s “Mayoi Boshi”, while the follow-up is set to continue the band storyline and add Akane Rin. The update therefore looks less like a one-off music tie-in and more like another chapter in NTE’s attempt to make its character events feel like proper performances rather than menu rewards.1

The Steam listing describes NTE: Neverness to Everness as a supernatural urban open-world RPG from Hotta Studio, set in the city of Hethereau. Players investigate anomalies, work with the Eibon antique shop and build relationships with a cast of unusual companions.2 That setting gives the new cover useful context: the song is tied to a specific character and story thread, not merely presented as a promotional track with no in-game role.

Our opinion

The smart part of this announcement is the link between the song, Akane Rin and the next playable-character release. “God knows...” carries recognition outside the game, but the update gives it an in-world reason to exist. Whether the performance lands will depend on how much the event lets players see the band story develop, rather than simply unlocking the song and moving on.

For now, the important date is 21 October. That is when the cover and Akane Rin are due to arrive with the second half of Version 1.4; the announcement does not suggest that the song is available ahead of that update.1
