Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth wakes up on PlayStation 5 and Switch 2
Hyper Games' Moomin-licensed adventure left PC behind in April; from today it is also on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, listed at £15.99.

Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth is out today on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Hyper Games' adventure, built on Tove Jansson's Moomin stories and made by the team behind Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, is listed at £15.99 on the UK PlayStation Store, with the PC version having been available on Steam since 27 April.
What you actually play
Moomintroll wakes early from hibernation and finds himself alone in a Moominvalley frozen over by the Lady of the Cold. What follows is a quest-and-puzzle adventure: wandering a landscape drawn from Nordic nature, meeting old and new friends, and solving their problems. Hyper Games is publishing with Kakehashi Games, and the PlayStation listing flags a PS5 Pro Enhanced mode, DualSense vibration support, Remote Play and offline single-player play.
Why the console versions are the interesting ones
This is a game that has been on PC for nearly five months, which makes today's launch a port rather than a debut. The audience it is aimed at, though, lives on consoles. The Moomin books are a fixture of childhood across Scandinavia, Japan and the UK, and the Switch 2 in particular is the machine that ends up in a household with children in it. Selling a gentle, frostbitten adventure at £15.99 to that audience is sharper positioning than another PC release would have been.
Hyper Games has been here before: Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley did the rounds on the same licence, and the studio's handling of it, affectionate and unhurried, is why Winter's Warmth arrives with goodwill rather than suspicion. Switch 2 owners also get it on day one rather than months late, which is not something that could be said for every 2026 release.
Our opinion
Cozy games have become a genre and a marketing category at the same time, and the second one has started to eat the first: plenty of games now promise warmth and deliver a checklist. What makes the Moomin material resistant to that is that Tove Jansson's stories were never actually gentle. The Lady of the Cold is genuinely frightening, and in Moominland Midwinter Moomintroll spends the book lonely and out of sorts; the comfort in it is earned rather than dispensed. If Hyper Games keeps that edge, Winter's Warmth will be one of the better £15.99 purchases of the season. If it has smoothed it into a fetch-quest with a nice colour palette, it will be forgettable in exactly the way its source material is not. Five months of PC feedback should already have told the studio which of those it built.
