Xbox has announced the Nano Controller, a compact gamepad aimed at players who want a smaller, lighter way to play across Xbox, PC, mobile and select smart TVs. It launches in November for $49.99, with pre-orders open now in the United States and other listed markets.1

A smaller Xbox controller

The Nano Controller is a little over five inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces, according to Xbox. Despite its pocket-sized design, it keeps all 18 standard gameplay inputs, alongside a rechargeable battery and a programmable Action Button for shortcuts such as screenshots and gameplay capture.1

Xbox says the controller supports Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth, making it suitable for console play as well as compatible PCs, iOS and Android devices. The company is also pitching it as an option for younger players, smaller hands and anyone who wants a controller that is easier to carry.1

Price, release date and availability

The Xbox Nano Controller costs $49.99 in the United States and becomes available from 4 November. Microsoft lists the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Australia, Japan and several other territories among the launch markets, with additional regions to follow. Pricing and availability can vary by country.1

Pre-orders are available through Xbox.com. Xbox also says it is working with Samsung on a US holiday bundle involving select TVs, and with Meta on a Quest promotion that includes a two-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription for new members.1

Our opinion

The Nano Controller makes sense as an accessory rather than a replacement for Xbox’s full-sized pad. Its headline advantage is convenience: a lighter controller that can live in a bag, connect to more than one kind of device and still retain the familiar button layout. The real question will be comfort over longer sessions, especially for adult hands, but the $49.99 price gives it a clear role as a travel, family or second controller rather than an expensive specialist purchase.

For UK players, the important detail is that the United Kingdom is included in the announced launch territories. The 4 November release date is firm, but local pricing has not been specified in the announcement.1
