World of Warcraft: Midnight buffs Druids and Mages but nerfs Rogues

Blizzard is buffing Druids, Mages and Warlocks while cutting Subtlety Rogue damage in the October 27 Midnight class tuning pass.

World of Warcraft: Midnight is getting another round of class tuning with the weekly maintenance scheduled for October 27. Blizzard’s official notes focus on a set of PvE buffs for several underperforming specialisations, alongside a significant reduction for Subtlety Rogues and a separate batch of PvP adjustments.1

Feral Druids will deal 5% more damage in PvE, while Restoration Druids receive larger healing on Verdancy and Regrowth. Improved Swiftmend will also increase Swiftmend healing by 40%, up from 30%. Blizzard says the Restoration changes are aimed at helping the spec handle burst damage in dungeons, where it has been behind other healers, while its raid performance remains strong.1

Fire Mages are receiving a straightforward 5% PvE damage increase. Marksmanship Hunters get a stronger Trick Shots multiplier for Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire, plus 10% increases to Explosive Shot and Volley. Affliction Warlocks gain 20% more damage on Unstable Affliction, and Destruction Warlocks receive the same increase for Rain of Fire.1

The sharpest change is aimed at Subtlety Rogues. All ability damage will be reduced by 8%, while Trickster: Fazed will increase damage by 5%, down from 7%. Blizzard says the previous Subtlety compensation overshot expectations and that Trickster had benefited more than Deathstalker from the 12.1.5 changes.1

The update also contains a long list of PvP changes. These include buffs for Devourer Demon Hunters, Preservation Evokers, Marksmanship Hunters, Mistweaver Monks, Holy Paladins, Holy Priests and Restoration Shamans, alongside reductions for Unholy Death Knights and Fire Mages. The PvE changes do not automatically apply to PvP where the notes explicitly exclude that combat mode.1

The changes arrive while players are still settling into the wider 12.1.5 update. A secondary report notes that Blizzard has already made a couple of small hotfix adjustments, but the main class-tuning package is tied to the October 27 weekly reset.2

Our opinion

This is the kind of balance pass that should be immediately visible without completely rewriting the game’s class rankings. Restoration Druids and Fire Mages get clear help, while the Subtlety Rogue reduction is large enough to force a recheck of the spec’s position. The important detail is Blizzard’s split between PvE and PvP: players should read the full notes before assuming a buff or nerf applies everywhere.

For most players, the practical decision is simple: check your spec after the reset rather than changing plans ahead of it. The numbers are official, but their real effect will depend on encounter design, player skill and how quickly the strongest builds adapt.
