Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year Two adds Duel Mode
SEGA's Year Two update for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds adds one-on-one races, new Gadgets, the Super Slot and more content.
Year Two has arrived for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, bringing a sizeable new batch of content to SEGA's racer. The update adds Duel Mode, new racers, vehicles and courses, alongside new Gadgets and the Super Slot, which gives a one-slot Gadget an enhanced effect.1
One-on-one racing arrives
Duel Mode is designed around one-on-one competition rather than the game's standard 12-player races. SEGA says the format puts more emphasis on the distance between opponents and on how each player uses items, creating a tighter contest where a single decision can change the result.1
The update also expands the game's customisation and strategy options. Gadgets can be combined to shape a preferred play style, while the Super Slot is dedicated to one-slot Gadgets and increases the effect of the item placed in it. That should give returning players another loadout decision to consider rather than simply adding a larger pile of unlocks.1
More racers, courses and SEGA history
Year Two adds more racers, vehicles and courses, and includes the Sega Consoles Pack. The pack features vehicles inspired by Dreamcast, Genesis and Saturn hardware, with design details intended to preserve the character of each machine while fitting the game's racing format. The update also ties into the Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition and Season Pass Two.1
The underlying game remains available on PC through Steam, where SEGA describes its racing across land, sea, air and space, with online and offline modes and extensive vehicle customisation.2 The PlayStation Blog announcement does not provide a standalone price or a complete regional availability breakdown for every Year Two item, so players should check their platform store for the exact local listing.
Our opinion
Duel Mode is the most interesting part of this update because it changes the shape of a race rather than merely adding another vehicle to the garage. The enhanced Gadget slot could make builds more deliberate, too. Whether Year Two becomes essential will depend on how well those systems hold up once players have exhausted the new courses, but this is a meaningful expansion for a racer built around constant tinkering.
