Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds adds Aang and Katara on 13 October
SEGA is bringing Aang and Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on 13 October, with more Year Two characters due to be shown next week.

SEGA has confirmed the next crossover for its kart racer. Aang and Katara, the two leads of Avatar: The Last Airbender, join Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on 13 October as part of the Avatar Legends Pack.
The date was trailed in a release date video published on the game's official channel on 2 October. Aang arrives with his glider and airbending animations, while Katara brings waterbending to a guest roster that already includes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Bayonetta.
SEGA is not finished with the line-up. More characters will be revealed during the Sonic Racing World Championship Finals on 9 October, where the game's Year Two additions are set to be showcased.
A crossover strategy that keeps paying off
CrossWorlds launched to a warm reception and an 84 metascore on Steam, helped by a steady drip of add-on characters rather than one large season pass. The Avatar pairing extends a run of collaborations that has pulled in properties well outside SEGA's own catalogue.
The game is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
Our opinion
Aang and Katara are a smart fit for a racer that treats its tracks as playgrounds, because bending already looks like a movement system. The bigger question is whether SEGA can hold the pace. Revealing characters one at a time at championships and showcases produces a burst of attention each time, but it also makes the roster hard to plan a purchase around, especially when the game already mixes free and paid add-ons. If the Year Two reveal arrives with a clearer roadmap than Year One had, the crossover strategy will read as deliberate rather than opportunistic.
