Sandisk announces Made for Meta storage for VR Glasses

Sandisk will supply official Made for Meta microSD Express cards and USB-C drives for Meta’s spring 2027 VR Glasses.

Sandisk storage cards marked Made for Meta for Meta VR Glasses

Sandisk has announced an official storage partnership with Meta for the company’s upcoming Meta VR Glasses, which are scheduled to launch in spring 2027. The deal makes Sandisk the exclusive provider of next-generation flash storage solutions for the glasses, according to Sandisk’s announcement.1

What Sandisk is making

The planned accessories include Sandisk microSD Express memory cards and USB-C flash drives. Sandisk says both will sit inside Meta’s official Made for Meta ecosystem and will be tested and certified for Meta VR Glasses.1

The announcement positions the products as a way to expand capacity for games, apps and other VR content. It does not yet give pricing, storage tiers or a release date for the accessories beyond the glasses’ spring 2027 window.1

Meta’s own announcement describes the VR Glasses as a new standalone product line, while the current reporting around the storage deal says the glasses will launch with 128GB of internal storage and support expandable capacity.23 Those storage specifications should be treated as reported details until Meta publishes a complete retail specification sheet.

Why expandable storage matters

VR software, captured video and high-resolution media can consume space quickly, particularly on a device intended to handle games and large virtual screens. Expandable storage lets Meta keep a simpler base configuration while allowing buyers to add capacity later, rather than paying for a larger internal-storage tier upfront.

The technical details still matter. Sandisk has not announced the final speed-class requirements, capacity range or pricing for these Meta-branded products. Those details will determine whether the accessories are a useful upgrade or simply a premium branding exercise.

Our opinion

This is a sensible accessory partnership for Meta, but it is not yet a complete storage solution. The Made for Meta certification should remove some compatibility guesswork, which is valuable for a new device category, yet shoppers still need the numbers: capacity, sustained speed, price and whether standard microSD Express cards will work just as well. Until those are clear, the announcement is more useful as a warning to budget for storage than as a product recommendation.
