Resident Evil 7 fan film earns praise from its director
Chandler Riggs' Resident Evil 7 fan film has drawn a public “Wow” from game director Koshi Nakanishi.
If you have watched Chandler Riggs' BIOHAZARD fan film, you now have a reason to revisit it: the short has received a public thumbs-up from Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.
What happened
GamesRadar reports that Nakanishi shared a screenshot of the fan film's YouTube thumbnail on Instagram, adding a colourful banner that simply read “Wow”. It is a small reaction rather than a formal review, but it is still a notable nod from the person who directed the game the film adapts. 1
Riggs — best known for playing Carl Grimes in The Walking Dead — wrote, directed, edited and stars in the roughly 19-minute live-action short. It recreates Ethan Winters' confrontation with the Baker family, bringing one of Resident Evil 7's most recognisable sequences into a fan-made film.
Why it matters
The short film is not an official Capcom production, and Nakanishi's reaction should not be mistaken for a licensing announcement or a promise of an official adaptation. Its value is that it connects a fan project directly with the creative mind behind the source game, while giving viewers a fresh excuse to seek out the film themselves.
You can watch BIOHAZARD on YouTube, where its description identifies it as a live-action Resident Evil 7 fan film. The video runs for about 19 minutes and stars Riggs as Ethan Winters. 2
Our opinion
Nakanishi's one-word reaction is hardly a detailed endorsement, but it is exactly the sort of public signal that gives a fan project extra weight. The important distinction is that this remains a fan film: the story is about a director appreciating an adaptation, not Capcom announcing a new movie. That makes the moment interesting without inflating it into something it is not.
