REKA leaves early access with a magical walking house

Emberstorm's witchy exploration game reaches version 1.0 with a completed story, new quests, expanded building options and a launch discount on Steam.

REKA's walking house and autumn woodland from the official 1.0 launch trailer

REKA has left Early Access on Steam, bringing Emberstorm Entertainment's witchy exploration adventure to version 1.0 with the full conclusion to its story. The game launched on 26 October, with a 35% discount running until 7 November according to Famitsu 3.

Players take the role of Reka, an apprentice to Baba Jaga, and travel through an autumnal world alongside a magical house that walks on chicken-like legs. The house is the player's mobile base, workshop and creative project: Reka can gather materials, build rooms, arrange furniture and shape it into a personalised home. The Steam description positions the game as a combat-free adventure built around exploration, crafting, foraging, gentle quests and relationships with woodland animals 1.

What is new in version 1.0

Version 1.0 completes Reka's story as the apprentice finishes her training and begins to step out as a witch in her own right. The launch adds new quests, environmental features, animals, furniture, decorations and building materials. Those additions give the central home-building system more room to breathe: the walking house can become a more expressive refuge rather than simply a functional stop between expeditions.

Emberstorm's official press material presents the game as a journey through misty forests and villages, with players able to gather ingredients, brew potions, befriend animals and decide how to respond to the people they meet 2. The world is procedurally generated, while the story and character choices provide a more authored thread through that roaming structure. Famitsu lists the standard Japanese price as 2,300 yen, reduced to 1,495 yen during the launch sale 3.

The launch version is available on PC through Steam. Steam's live store listing shows the current regional price and discount, so readers should check their own storefront for the exact amount before buying 1.

Our opinion

REKA's strongest idea remains its most obvious one: a house with legs is an instantly readable fantasy hook, but the game gives that hook a useful purpose. Building and decorating the home is tied to travelling, gathering and settling into the world, which should make customisation feel more meaningful than a detached menu system. The 1.0 additions matter because they expand that loop while finally giving the journey a complete destination. The important caveat is that REKA is aimed at players who enjoy atmosphere and making their own pace. Its combat-free design and procedural landscapes will not offer the same urgency as a traditional action adventure. For anyone drawn to folklore, cosy building and a peculiar mobile home, the full release is a more convincing invitation than an Early Access prologue.

The completed story and new decoration options make today the clearest point at which to start.
