Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3 still needs the perfect story
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners creator Bartosz Sztybor says a third season depends on finding a perfect story and creative team.
The prospect of a third season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners remains open, but creator Bartosz Sztybor says it will only happen if the team finds the right story and the right creative partnership. That is a much more cautious position than a formal renewal announcement.
Speaking to ComicBook, Sztybor said there are still plenty of stories to tell in Night City. He also explained that CD Projekt Red takes a perfectionist approach to the franchise: a new season would need a strong story, director and studio capable of delivering it at the required quality.
That means Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 3 is neither confirmed nor ruled out. Sztybor said that if the pieces align, another season could happen, but the project could also stop with two seasons if the necessary creative combination never arrives. The comments describe a possibility, not a production green light.
The distinction matters because the wider Cyberpunk universe is still active. CD Projekt Red and TRIGGER’s official Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 site presents a separate ten-episode story with a new cast, while the existing series’ future remains undecided. A social-media poll about the next Edgerunners legend is also not evidence that season 3 has been commissioned.
Our opinion
This is the right sort of uncertainty for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The first season earned its reputation by committing to a focused story rather than stretching the same characters indefinitely. Waiting for a genuinely worthwhile idea is more encouraging than announcing another season simply because Night City still has room for one.
For now, treat season 3 as a possibility worth watching, not a show you can add to a release calendar. The latest comments support hope, but they do not change the official status: no renewal has been announced.
