Pokémon TCG Pocket Dual Fusion adds dual-type cards on October 29
Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Dual Fusion expansion introduces its first dual-type cards, with Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex leading the October 29 launch.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is getting its first dual-type cards when the Dual Fusion expansion launches on October 29, 2026. The Pokémon Company International says the set will add cards with two Pokémon TCG types, beginning with Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex.1
The announcement makes Dual Fusion the next major expansion for the mobile card-collecting game, rather than a small event drop. Mega Mewtwo X ex will combine Psychic and Fighting types, while Mega Greninja ex will combine Water and Dark types. That gives players new deck-building possibilities and a reason to revisit how they balance attacks, weaknesses and energy requirements.1
The expansion will also add new cards and illustrations for familiar Pokémon including Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. The Pokémon Company has not announced pricing in the press release, so there is no basis for treating Dual Fusion as a paid expansion or assuming how its cards will be distributed.1
More events are coming with Dual Fusion
Alongside the expansion, Special Pack: First Partners will run from October 31 to December 26. These packs use a separate stamina system that recovers weekly and guarantee one one-star card, with the contents focused on the first partner Pokémon from each of the nine regions.1
A year-long Pika Pika! Pikachu event is also scheduled to run from October 20, 2026, to October 20, 2027. Players who log in for 10 days can earn a Pikachu ex immersive card, Pikachu packs and new accessories. The announcement also teases a second-anniversary campaign, themed promo-card events and further missions without detailing their rewards.1
The US Pokémon.com listing gives the launch as October 28 at 6 p.m. PDT, which falls on October 29 in much of Europe. Players should check their regional Pokémon site or the in-app notice for the exact local release time rather than assuming every territory changes over at midnight.2
Our opinion
Dual Fusion is a meaningful change for Pokémon TCG Pocket because dual-type cards can affect both collection appeal and the decisions players make when building a deck. Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex are a sensible pair to lead the expansion: they are recognisable Pokémon, but their mixed typings should give the first wave a clear identity beyond another batch of familiar illustrations. The important detail is how the app handles those cards in practice. Until the full card list and event rules arrive, the most interesting question is whether Dual Fusion broadens viable strategies or simply adds more chase cards to the same routines.
For now, the confirmed news is straightforward: Dual Fusion arrives on October 29, the first dual-type cards are Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex, and several connected events will follow.1
