The Monsters' Child turns raising a human child into a 2027 game

The Monsters' Child turns raising the only human in a monster world into a story-led simulation due on PC in 2027.

The Monsters' Child, a story-led raising simulation from developer Zig, has been announced for PC with a 2027 release window. It puts players in the role of a monster parent caring for the only human child in a world where monsters are the norm.12

The game begins when a human baby appears during the Hunter's Moon. After the monsters debate what to do, the player is chosen as her parent. The story then follows the girl from the age of six, with day-to-day decisions shaping how she grows and how she understands the community around her.12

How the raising sim works

Players plan each day around activities including reading, study, singing and rest. Those choices affect the girl's attributes, mood and stamina, so the routine is not simply a checklist of chores. Time advances season by season, and the available turns before adulthood give the story a defined arc rather than an open-ended life simulator.12

The Steam listing names four growth attributes — Vitality, Resonance, Monster Knowledge and Assimilation — alongside four talent trees. The choices made while developing those abilities can steer the girl's interests, from gardening and work to social confidence and a deeper understanding of the monster world.2

The family can also explore the town together, meet its residents and build relationships. Zig's description suggests that those conversations are central to the game's story: the monsters see the girl as an extraordinary human, while she sees them as the neighbours and family she has always known.12

There are activities beyond studying and socialising, too. The Steam page lists farming, part-time jobs, balls, exams, pets and expeditions among the ways players can spend time. Outfits can be unlocked as the girl grows, with some clothing offering attribute bonuses. The game is planned to support English, German, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.2

Release details

The Monsters' Child is planned for release in 2027 on PC. Zig is listed as both developer and publisher on Steam, but no price or firm launch date has been announced. The store page is already live, with screenshots and a demonstration video offering an early look at the raising and customisation systems.2

Our opinion

The Monsters' Child has a stronger hook than its cosy presentation initially suggests. Raising the only human in a monster society gives the everyday schedule a clear emotional purpose: study, friendships and even outfit choices can all feed into the question of what kind of adult this child becomes. The fixed journey towards the next Hunter's Moon should also give each decision more weight than a never-ending management sandbox. We will be watching for a precise release date and more detail on how those four talent trees change the story.
