Echoes of the Flame release date set for 25 November
Echoes of the Flame launches on PC in November with alternating party stories and a shield-focused command battle system.
Echoes of the Flame, the story-led 2.5D RPG known in Japanese as 火の言伝, now has a firm PC release date: 25 November. Developer Konno Tobari announced the date through 4Gamer, alongside a new video explaining the game’s combat system.1
The game follows two parties travelling from opposite ends of the world towards Coral Peak. Their stories alternate by chapter, with the two groups gradually revealing more about the setting and each other. The developer estimates a 10-to-20-hour playthrough, while the Steam listing confirms the game is coming to PC.12
Echoes of the Flame is built around a command-battle system rather than random encounters. Every combatant has a shield, and reducing that shield makes health damage more effective. That creates a straightforward but meaningful choice: keep breaking an enemy’s guard, or switch to direct damage before the fight turns against you.1
Characters grow through ability customisation rather than a conventional level system. Story progress awards combat power that can be assigned to abilities, while weapons and armour can be modified with spirit stones. Those upgrades can be tuned towards shield breaking, status effects or other tactical priorities.1
Exploration also feeds into the narrative. The game’s “Key Words” can be presented to relevant characters to unlock sub-stories and gradually expose the history behind the journey. That gives the release more to offer than a simple sequence of battles, particularly for players who enjoy RPGs that make world-building part of the progression loop.12
Our opinion
A fixed date makes Echoes of the Flame much easier to place on the indie RPG radar, and its alternating-party structure is a stronger hook than a generic fantasy setting. The shield system also sounds legible at a glance without being entirely passive: players will have to decide whether to dismantle an enemy’s protection or press for a quicker finish. The November release will show whether those ideas develop into a satisfying rhythm across the full campaign.
The game is scheduled to launch on 25 November for PC. The Steam page lists the title as Echoes of the Flame, while the Japanese announcement uses 火の言伝.
