Hasbro names former Halo studio head to lead its game divisions

Dan Ayoub, a former 343 Industries studio head, will lead Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Games.

Hasbro has named Dan Ayoub as president of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Games, putting a former Halo studio leader in charge of a portfolio that includes Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons and the company’s future games. GamesRadar reports that Ayoub was selected after a search involving internal and external candidates. 1

Ayoub spent 11 years at Microsoft, including time as studio head of 343 Industries, the team formerly responsible for Halo. He also held production roles at Ubisoft and EA, and later became a vice president and general manager at Certain Affinity. He joined Wizards of the Coast in 2022 before taking on the new role. 1

What changes now

The appointment places a games-industry veteran over both Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro’s digital games operation. That means Ayoub’s remit covers established tabletop brands as well as projects including Exodus from Archetype Entertainment and Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons from Invoke Studios. 1

Hasbro’s announcement comes after former president John Hight said he would step down earlier this year. Ayoub said he wants to put fans first and set an ambitious course for tabletop and digital games, but the company has not attached specific release or production changes to his appointment. 1

Our opinion

This is a meaningful appointment because it connects Hasbro’s tabletop business with someone who has spent years inside large-scale game development. The interesting question is not whether Ayoub knows the industry; his CV answers that. It is whether that experience translates into clearer priorities for Wizards’ digital projects, which have often had to compete for attention with the strength of the company’s tabletop brands.

For now, the appointment is a signal rather than a promise of immediate game announcements. The next useful evidence will be how Hasbro talks about Exodus, Warlock and its wider digital strategy under Ayoub’s leadership.
