Metro 2039 will launch on PS5 on 4 February 2027, bringing the post-apocalyptic series back to a familiar world of tunnels, ruined cities and things that would very much prefer you did not make noise. PlayStation confirmed the date during its September State of Play.

The accompanying gameplay reveal focuses on the PS5 Pro version, promising a closer look at how the new game handles its bleak environments and firefights on Sony’s upgraded console. The footage also reinforces the series’ mix of claustrophobic survival, stealth and explosive encounters.

The release date is confirmed for PS5. The official announcement checked here does not provide final pricing, a complete platform list or detailed pre-order information, so those points remain to be confirmed rather than inferred from retailer listings.

February is becoming a remarkably crowded month for big games, which makes Metro 2039’s atmosphere and focused single-player identity useful points of difference. It will not win by being the loudest game in the room; it will win by making every dark corridor feel like a terrible idea.

Our opinion

Metro 2039 landing in February is a bold choice, but the series has always thrived on pressure rather than comfort. If the PS5 Pro enhancements preserve the oppressive mood instead of turning the underground into a showroom, this could be one of 2027’s most compelling survival shooters.
