Square Enix has set a release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, with the next chapter of its ambitious Final Fantasy VII project arriving on PlayStation 5 on 8 April 2027. The announcement came during the September 2026 State of Play.

The new trailer puts the spotlight on combat and exploration, offering a longer look at the game’s party-based action and the environments players will travel through. It is a sequel-sized promise rather than a small expansion, and Square Enix is positioning it as a major new journey within its reimagined continuity.

The PS5 release date is confirmed by PlayStation, while details such as final editions, pricing and any later PC launch have not been announced in the official material checked for this report. Pre-orders and a full retail breakdown should follow closer to launch.

A spring 2027 date gives Square Enix room to keep polishing a game carrying an enormous amount of expectation. The trailer suggests a broader adventure, but the real test will be whether its combat, pacing and character work can justify another long stay in Midgar’s orbit.

Our opinion

A date is exactly what Final Fantasy VII Revelation needed: something solid beneath the spectacular trailers. April 2027 is still a sizeable wait, but a confident release window gives the project shape. Now Square Enix needs to show that this is more than nostalgia with sharper lighting — it needs a new reason to care.
