Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 hits Switch 2 with crash and save reports

Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunners 2 update brings new quests and mod support to Switch 2, but players are reporting crashes, loading bugs and save glitches.

CD Projekt Red’s Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) is now live on Nintendo Switch 2, but reports of crashes, loading problems and save glitches are already clouding the patch’s arrival. Nintendo Life says its own testing found crashes, while players have described the update as difficult to play on Nintendo’s console. 1

The patch is a substantial one rather than a small maintenance download. CD Projekt Red’s official notes add the Clampdown side quest, a five-piece King gear set and a new radio station featuring music from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The update also adds cross-platform mod support through mod.io, new clothing, customisable hand cyberware and a double-wielding perk for pistols and revolvers. 2

What is going wrong on Switch 2

The reported problems are broad rather than limited to one visual bug. Players have mentioned crashes, loading failures, performance trouble and profile or save glitches. Nintendo Life also says it encountered crashes while checking the update. That makes the issue more serious than a handful of isolated reports, although the current evidence does not establish how widespread each problem is across the Switch 2 player base. 1

The timing is especially awkward because Update 2.5 was meant to bring the Switch 2 version into line with the main console release. CD Projekt Red’s pre-release notes said Nintendo players would receive the patch in the days after the 22 October launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The official notes list a Switch 2 fix for a save error involving insufficient space, but the new reports suggest that the platform build may have introduced or exposed other problems. 2

What the update adds

Beyond the Edgerunners 2 content, the patch expands Cyberpunk 2077 in several useful directions. Cross-platform mod support lets players browse and install selected community creations directly from the game. A new guided Night City tour, extra Tarot cards, save grouping and stash filters sit alongside the larger feature additions. 2

The Switch 2 release also includes the same broad content package as the other platforms, including new quests and customisation options. That is good news for parity, but it also means players are dealing with a sizeable update rather than a narrowly targeted Switch 2 patch. Until CD Projekt Red confirms the cause and scope of the reported crashes, players should keep backups of important saves and avoid assuming that every problem has a workaround.

Our opinion

This is the sort of launch that makes a genuinely attractive update difficult to recommend immediately. The content itself looks unusually generous, and mod support plus new Edgerunners material gives returning players a reason to revisit Night City. But a patch that touches saves, loading and stability needs to be dependable before its new features can matter. The sensible position for Switch 2 players is to wait for CD Projekt Red’s response if their current save is valuable, while watching for a hotfix rather than treating the reports as proof that every copy is broken.
