Cold Iron Studios has pushed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 into early 2027. The four-player co-op shooter launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 25 August, with a Switch 2 edition promised for autumn.
What Cold Iron said
In a statement, the studio said the extra time will go into the port. “After careful consideration, we now plan to release it natively on Switch 2 in early 2027,” Cold Iron said. “This extra time will help the team deliver the best possible version for the hardware.” The studio added that it remains focused on tuning the game for every player.
The Switch 2 release was never in the day-one line-up. Cold Iron confirmed the platform in August as a later arrival, so this is a change to the console’s schedule rather than a delay to the game itself. No exact date has been announced, and the studio has only committed to early 2027.
Why the port is the hard part
Crossplay already links Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox and PlayStation, and four-player squads are the entire pitch. A native Switch 2 build therefore has to keep a full fireteam together on the least powerful hardware in the line-up, which makes a performance pass more than routine polish. The sequel also adds battle classes, a Specialist endgame class and an expanded horde mode, so any rough edges would be felt from the first mission.
Our opinion
A delay is the right call here. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 arrived with performance complaints on far stronger hardware, and a Switch 2 version that stutters would undermine the one thing the game does brilliantly: four friends holding a corridor against a Xenomorph rush. Cold Iron should use the extra months to make the port feel native rather than merely playable, and then commit to a date it can actually keep.
