Skyblivion recruits a team to sell its 2026 launch

The Oblivion-in-Skyrim mod is building a communications team for trailers and interviews, with its release still listed as 2026 after slipping from last year.

Skyblivion, the long-running project rebuilding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion inside Skyrim, is asking for volunteers. Not to finish the mod, but to sell it.

What's actually going on

The team is expanding its communications department ahead of launch and wants volunteers with backgrounds in video production or social media to help with trailer editing, gameplay capture and developer interviews. The call went out through the project's own channels and points to a sign-up page that warns relevant experience is required and that the project cannot train people from scratch.

Nothing was said about how close the mod actually is. The team's press kit still lists the release date as 2026 with 2025 struck through, and the project is free on PC. It recreates Cyrodiil, its quests, locations and characters, inside Skyrim: Special Edition.

The numbers behind Skyblivion are unusual for a mod. The direct port that started the project began in 2012 and the remake proper in 2016, and the team now runs to more than 50 volunteers under project lead Rebelzize. It has been largely quiet since he said in April that another major setback was always possible while adding that he was optimistic about what he was seeing internally. Since then there have been small requests for help and a tribute to the modder Kettlewitch, described as a close friend and mentor, who died in June.

Why you should care

Building a communications team is what a project does when the work is finishing and the marketing has not started. That is encouraging for anyone who has followed Skyblivion's fourteen years of development, but it is not the same as a date. With four months of 2026 left, a launch this year needs an announcement soon, and the mod has plenty of goodwill to spend if it misses again.

Our opinion

Fourteen years is long enough that Skyblivion has stopped being just a mod and become a standing argument about whether fan projects should be allowed to take this long. The fair answer is that the team has never asked for money, has shipped regular progress, and owes nobody a deadline. A recruitment drive for trailer editors is nonetheless the first signal in a while that the finish line is being treated as real. The sobering part is what comes next, because Bethesda's own Oblivion Remastered has taken the obvious commercial wind out of this project's sails, and a free fan remake arriving after the official one has to justify itself on craft alone. On the evidence of the screenshots, it can.
