13 Omens horror TTRPG launches on Kickstarter

Paizo's new supernatural horror RPG uses a shared dice bag to make every one-shot more dangerous as the story unfolds.

13 Omens is now live on Kickstarter, giving Paizo a supernatural horror tabletop RPG built around one-session stories, rising tension and a bag of dice that gets nastier as the game goes on.12

A horror game built for one night

Paizo describes 13 Omens as a modern, rules-lite horror RPG set in a darker reflection of our world. One player takes the Host role while everyone else creates characters from story-specific archetypes, with each scenario split into three acts.1

The central mechanic is deliberately simple: when a character faces danger or an uncertain challenge, players draw two or more six-sided dice from a shared bag. It starts with eight Safe Dice, but the Host adds Omen Dice as the story progresses. Those red dice can wound or kill characters, turning the final act into a steadily worsening gamble.13

What the Kickstarter includes

The campaign funds the core rulebook and unlockable zines, alongside accessories and extras including dice, a GM screen, virtual tabletop support, plushies, apparel and special editions.23 Paizo says the game is designed for mature players, with horror themes that groups should discuss before play.1

The campaign page reported by TechRaptor listed pledges ranging from a $15 digital rulebook to an $850 bundle containing the physical and digital game, accessories, zines, collectibles and additional merchandise.3 Paizo's own launch post confirms that the Kickstarter is the route for backing the core rulebook and the expanding zine line.2

Our opinion

The promising idea here is not merely that 13 Omens is another horror RPG. The shared dice bag gives the table a visible pressure gauge: everyone can see the danger accumulating, and every draw makes the next one feel worse. That is a clean fit for a single-session horror story, where a strong escalation loop matters more than a huge campaign ruleset.

The Kickstarter also makes the format easy to understand. Paizo is selling a compact game with a clear table ritual, a defined three-act structure and optional physical extras, rather than asking players to decode an enormous new fantasy system. Whether the stories justify the surrounding merchandise will depend on the finished scenarios, but the core pitch has a properly nasty hook: the bag remembers every bad decision.

The details

The 13 Omens Kickstarter is live now and is scheduled to run until November 13, according to the campaign details reported by TechRaptor.3 Paizo's official page directs prospective backers to the campaign for the rulebook, dice, zines and crowdfunding-exclusive extras.1
