An Old School RuneScape player has reportedly collected all 71 pets in 6,572 hours, completing a challenge that took more than 273 days of playtime.

Old School RuneScape has produced another wonderfully excessive achievement: player Coxie has reportedly collected all 71 of the game's pets in 6,572 hours of playtime, completing the challenge in just over 273 days. 1

A very long pet hunt

The achievement comes from a video series that began in April 2023, after Coxie decided to repeat the process of collecting every pet — this time against the clock. In Old School RuneScape, pets can come from bosses, minigames and skilling activities, with some drops carrying extremely low odds.

That makes the final total more daunting than the raw number suggests. Many of the game's pets are tied to demanding boss encounters, while others depend on repeated activities with drop rates that can stretch into the thousands. The Inferno's Jal-Nib-Rek pet, for example, has a one-in-100 drop rate — but that means one successful drop for every 100 completions of an exceptionally difficult challenge. 1

Coxie's final pet was Beef, a cow with a listed drop rate of one in 1,000. The full run took just over 273 days of playtime, adding up to 6,572 hours. GamesRadar's comparison puts that at roughly 30% of the waking hours across the account's three years, nine months and 23 days of existence, assuming eight hours of sleep each night. 1

The record gap

Jagex verified the achievement and highlighted the distance between Coxie's total and the next fastest all-pet run. The second-place attempt is reported at 572 days, or 13,728 hours — more than twice Coxie's playtime. 1

That gap is the most impressive part of the story. This is not simply a player spending a long time grinding one rare item; it is a complete route through a game where the final few rewards can be locked behind difficult content and punishing randomness. Old School RuneScape is built around player-driven progression and regular new content, which is part of why this sort of self-imposed challenge can become a serious competitive event. 2

Our opinion

There is something oddly compelling about a record that is so specific and so unreasonable. The headline number is enormous, but the story works because every hour represents a different kind of Old School RuneScape problem: difficult fights, rare drops and the sheer stubbornness needed to keep going after most players would have stopped.

The result is less a lesson in efficiency than a monument to persistence. Coxie's run may hold for a while — not because the game has run out of challenges, but because beating 6,572 hours will require somebody else to make the same absurd commitment and somehow lose less time to bad luck.
