RuneScape: Dragonwilds reveals a two-year Blood Crystal Saga
Jagex used the first Dragonwilds Summit at RuneFest 2026 to map a winter Luminance update and a two-chapter 2027 Blood Crystal Saga, opening with Song of Rebellion.

Jagex has laid out the next two years of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, revealing a multi-year roadmap at the first Dragonwilds Summit during RuneFest 2026. The co-operative survival game's next free update, Luminance, arrives this winter as a December release and acts as a prelude to the Blood Crystal Saga, the 2027 story arc that will be told across two chapters.
What Luminance brings this winter
Luminance picks the story up after Kuldra's defeat, tasking players with protecting Ceridwen and her child, two elves hunted by the bounty hunter Morwyn. Ceridwen's plan leans on music: you master the Lyre, resonate with Songstones to take up a bard's role, and use Fairy Rings to reach hidden corners of Ashenfall. Jagex is also adding elven character customisation, new weapons, armour and vestiges found through Harmonised Crystal Fragments, and a building kit that carries Prifddinas' green-and-white architecture, arched roof pieces included, into the survival game.
A new Prayer skill also lands with Luminance. Jagex is careful to separate it from the Prayer of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape: this version is built around connecting with the divine by scattering ashes and burying bones, with more detail promised closer to release.
The Blood Crystal Saga opens with Song of Rebellion
The Blood Crystal Saga will be told across two chapters, the first being Song of Rebellion. A fragmented band of Rebel Elves needs help evading the Nos Clan, who are rising up against the peace that followed Kuldra's death. Players are welcomed into Ailddinas, an elven city of crystalline spires wrapped in forest, though the Nos Clan's corruption has already spread from the city into the surrounding woodland.
The chapter adds fresh creatures to hunt, including implings, new kebbit variations, grizzly bears and birds, alongside the Hunter skill. Jagex describes Hunter as the first of several new skills planned for next year. The published roadmap shows the rest of the arc as Blood of Brothers, Priestess of Peril and Crown of Night, delivered through monthly and quarterly updates across 2027.
Our opinion
Dragonwilds left early access on 15 September at £24.99, and this roadmap is Jagex answering the question every survival game eventually faces: what happens once the credits roll? Committing to a named, two-chapter saga and a skill list that adds Prayer and Hunter rather than another crafting tier is a bolder promise than the seasonal resets survival players are used to. The risk is scope. Luminance has to land in December with a bard system, a new skill and a building kit at once, and Jagex has spent this autumn firefighting corrupted saves on the live build. Shipping the roadmap without the bugs is the real test.
