Nintendo plans Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 restocks after demand spike

Nintendo says it underestimated demand for Zelda: Ocarina of Time and plans to replenish the Switch 2 game and 40th Anniversary Edition hardware.

Nintendo says demand for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 has exceeded expectations, with a senior executive describing the response as a “global phenomenon” and confirming that replenishments are planned for the game and its 40th Anniversary Edition hardware.1

What Nintendo is saying

Bill van Zyll, Nintendo’s vice president and general manager for Latin America, said the company underestimated the response in markets including Brazil and the United States. He said pre-orders had reached their limits in some regions, while the special-edition Switch 2 system and Pro Controller sold out quickly.1

Nintendo has not announced a restock date or quantities. Van Zyll did confirm that the company is working on replenishments for the hardware, controller and software, so the current shortage is not being presented as a permanently limited release.1

The remake launches on 5 November 2026. The 40th Anniversary Edition console arrives earlier, on 29 October, putting pressure on Nintendo to get more stock into shops before the hardware release.1

The renewed attention follows Nintendo’s reveal campaign, including an official overview trailer for the Switch 2 version.

What this means for buyers

The announcement is useful, but it is not a promise that every retailer will have stock on launch day. Nintendo has confirmed the intention to replenish the products, while leaving the timetable and regional allocation open. Buyers should treat listings claiming guaranteed availability with caution until retailers publish fresh inventory information.

There is also a regional wrinkle. Van Zyll was discussing Latin American markets, although his comments referred to the wider response and said Nintendo had seen the problem “absolutely everywhere”. That supports the broad demand picture, but it does not guarantee that a particular UK or US retailer will receive stock at the same time.

Our opinion

Nintendo’s statement is better than silence, but “we are working on it” is still a holding message rather than a proper restock plan. The strongest part is the acknowledgement that the shortage caught the company off guard; the frustrating part is that fans still have no date, quantity or retailer guidance to work with. The best move is to wait for confirmed retailer listings instead of paying inflated resale prices for a system Nintendo says it intends to replenish.
