Xbox Game Pass appears to be testing personalised pricing
Some Game Pass Ultimate subscribers report 12-month lock-in offers at different monthly rates, hinting at account-level dynamic pricing.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate appears to be getting personalised pricing experiments, with some subscribers reporting 12-month lock-in offers well below the standard rate.
What’s actually going on
A Reddit post on r/XboxGamePass, reported by TechPowerUp, shows an offer of US$16.09 per month for Game Pass Ultimate, locked for 12 months before reverting to the US$22.99 standard rate — about US$82.80 less over the year than paying monthly. Other users in the same thread reported offers closer to US$18 or US$20, and one noted their secondary account received the discount while their main account did not, suggesting account-level targeting.
Game Pass Ultimate dropped from US$29.99 to US$22.99 in April after subscriber numbers reportedly fell following an earlier price rise. Under CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox has already signalled interest in more flexible Game Pass pricing. Microsoft has not confirmed an official programme, so these figures remain anecdotal.
Why you should care
Personalised pricing means two subscribers can pay different amounts for the same service. If your account is flagged as price-sensitive or lapsed, a retention offer may appear; if you are a loyal payer, it likely will not. Watching for — and waiting on — those offers may become part of subscribing smartly.
Our opinion
Retention discounts are a classic move for a subscription service that has pushed prices as far as the market will bear. It is good news for wavering subscribers, and slightly insulting for loyal ones. Until Microsoft says something official, do not treat any offer as guaranteed — but if one lands in your account, snapping up a 12-month lock-in is a sensible hedge against the next price rise.
