WoW: Forever rules out Tokens and level boosts

Blizzard says World of Warcraft: Forever will not launch with WoW Tokens or purchasable experience boosts — at least for now. The clarification puts the emphasis back on the MMO's old-fashioned promise: start at level 1, make friends, get lost and earn your way to the top without buying a shortcut.
What's actually going on
GamesRadar+ reports that Clayton Stone, associate production director on WoW Classic, discussed the game in an interview with creator Destin Legarie. Stone said Blizzard has ‘no plans for anything like a WoW token or a boost’ in an online shop, explaining that the journey itself is the point of the game and that the level 1-to-60 climb is central to how players improve and meet people.
The wording matters. ‘No plans’ is not the same as a permanent legal promise, and players are already debating whether Tokens or boosts could arrive later. For now, Blizzard is presenting Forever as a version of the MMO where progression, social play and the climb matter more than convenience purchases.
Why you should care
WoW Tokens have always been a lightning rod because they blur the line between earning something in Azeroth and buying a shortcut with real money. Keeping them out gives Forever a clearer identity, especially for lapsed players who want the old social rhythm without the modern shop creeping into every system.
Our opinion
This is the right stance, and Blizzard should be very careful before changing it. ‘No plans’ is cautious corporate language, but the underlying idea is solid: if Forever is selling the journey, let players take it. The first real test will be whether Blizzard can resist adding a shortcut shop once the nostalgia wears off.
