World of Warcraft Forever beta extended ahead of launch
World of Warcraft: Forever’s beta has been extended until Friday as Blizzard runs a final server stress test before launch.
World of Warcraft: Forever’s beta has been extended until Friday, giving players a little more time in Blizzard’s reworked version of Azeroth before the servers go down this weekend. The extension was announced by Blizzard associate production director Clayton Stone, according to Eurogamer.1
The change is a small but welcome shift for anyone still exploring the level 1–30 beta. Blizzard is also running a server stress test, opening a route into the test for players who did not previously have access. That makes the final stretch less about quietly wrapping up the beta and more about pushing the new MMO’s infrastructure before launch.
What happens next
After the beta closes, players are expected to get a chance to reserve a character name next week. World of Warcraft: Forever is then scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026, with the official game page describing an expanded Azeroth, new quests, upgraded environments and the Skyborne race.2 The timing means the beta’s final days are doing double duty: they are a last chance to play, and a live test of the systems Blizzard needs ready for release.
The extension also produced an unexpectedly emotional farewell tour. Players had already posted screenshots and messages about leaving their hunter pets behind when the original beta end date approached. Hunter pets are a core part of that class fantasy, so dismissing one for the final time can feel more personal than simply logging out of a test server. Community posts shared by Eurogamer show players mourning those temporary companions and then realising that a longer beta means they may need to find new pets when they return.1
For players who have not yet joined, the official beta information remains the safest place to check access details and timing. Blizzard says the test is available through October 21, while the full game is due to arrive on November 4.2
Our opinion
Extending the beta is the right call when the extra time is being used for a stress test rather than simply handing out more preview hours. It gives Blizzard another chance to find problems before launch, while letting players squeeze a little more life out of a test that had already started to feel oddly final. The hunter-pet goodbyes are funny and genuinely sad in equal measure — a sign that this version of Azeroth has already made its temporary characters matter.
