Total War: SHOGUN 2 gets a Complete Edition on 13 October
SEGA and Creative Assembly are bundling the feudal-Japan strategy classic, both of its samurai expansions and more than 50 new playable factions into one PC release.
SEGA and Creative Assembly have dated Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition for 13 October on PC, folding the original campaign, the Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai expansions and the rest of the game’s add-on content into a single release.
The Steam listing calls it the “updated, enhanced, and complete version of the grand strategy classic”. In practice that means revised lighting, shadows and textures, 1440p and 4K interface scaling, modernised controls, a 64-bit rebuild and in-game mod support through Mod.io.
The bigger draw for series veterans is scale. The re-release adds more than 50 newly playable minor factions, alongside full Japanese and Chinese voice acting and text localisation — a first for a game that has spent its life in English-language menus. The game also keeps its Avatar Conquest multiplayer, co-op campaigns and eight-player custom battles.
Our opinion
SHOGUN 2 is still the sharpest argument for the Total War formula: a tight map, a clear goal and real-time battles that reward patience over cheese. Repackaging it is not the most exciting announcement SEGA could make, but a complete edition with modern controls, mod support and a 64-bit build is the version newcomers should buy. What Creative Assembly has not told us yet is what owners of the original will pay to upgrade, and that price decides whether this is a gift or a nudge to buy the same game twice.
