The Wolf Among Us Remastered demo is free on Steam

The Wolf Among Us Remastered gets a free Steam demo during Steam Next Fest ahead of its 29 October launch.

The free demo for The Wolf Among Us Remastered is now available on Steam, giving PC players an early look at Telltale’s refreshed take on its dark Fabletown adventure ahead of the game’s 29 October launch. The trial is part of Steam Next Fest, which runs from 19 to 26 October 2026. 1

A free demo before launch

The demo is available from the official Steam page for The Wolf Among Us Remastered. It gives players a chance to revisit Bigby Wolf’s investigation through Fableville before the full remaster arrives on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, alongside console versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox. 1

Telltale also promoted the trial through its official account, encouraging players to download it during Steam Next Fest rather than waiting for the full release. 2 The event window matters: the publisher has not confirmed that the demo will remain available after the festival ends, so anyone curious about the remaster should treat the next few days as the safest opportunity to try it.

The demo is currently listed for PC. There is no equivalent console trial announced in the source material, leaving PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo players to wait for further details. The full game is scheduled to launch on 29 October 2026, with the Nintendo Switch version following later without a confirmed date. 1

What the remaster changes

The Wolf Among Us Remastered returns to the 2013 narrative adventure in which Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, investigates a series of murders among fairy-tale characters hiding in modern New York. The remaster brings updated graphics, rebuilt animations and refreshed lighting, while also adding a Noir mode that presents the adventure in black and white. 1

The release is intended to gather all five original episodes in one package. It also includes bonus material such as interviews, deleted scenes and other behind-the-scenes additions. Those changes make the demo useful for two groups: newcomers can see whether the detective story and decision-driven structure suit them, while returning players can judge how much the new presentation alters the mood of a familiar favourite.

The timing ahead of The Wolf Among Us 2

The remaster’s arrival also gives Telltale a chance to put Bigby back in front of players before The Wolf Among Us 2. The sequel is still expected in 2027 and is set several months after the original story, according to the available release information. 1

That makes the demo more than a routine promotional extra. It is a low-cost way for curious players to catch up with the world, and a convenient refresher for anyone who last played the original more than a decade ago. The festival deadline also gives the trial a clear sense of urgency without pretending the full game has launched early.

Our opinion

A free PC demo is the right move for a story-heavy remaster whose appeal depends on its atmosphere, writing and performances rather than a new gameplay system. The Steam Next Fest timing lets players decide whether the visual overhaul preserves the original’s noir identity before paying for the complete package. The important caveat is availability: with no confirmed promise that the trial will survive beyond the festival, interested players should download it before 26 October rather than assume it will remain on the store indefinitely.
