Tales of Eternia Remastered launches on consoles, Steam follows tomorrow
Bandai Namco has released Tales of Eternia Remastered on consoles, with the Steam edition arriving on 16 October alongside new quality-of-life features.
Tales of Eternia Remastered (テイルズ オブ エターニア リマスター) is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Steam edition due on 16 October. Bandai Namco’s official site confirms the split launch dates and a day-one update for the console versions.1
What is included
The remaster brings back the PlayStation-era role-playing game’s story of two worlds separated by the sky. Rid, Farah and Meredy set out to stop the looming Grand Fall while travelling between Inferia and Celestia. The original 2D battle system remains in place, with the remaster focused on making the adventure easier to navigate on modern hardware.1
Famitsu reports that the release adds destination icons and several boost functions, while players can switch the background graphics and sound effects between the updated presentation and an approximation of the original atmosphere.2 Those options should make the game more approachable without forcing longtime fans to abandon its older visual identity.
The Deluxe Edition includes a digital art book, a digital soundtrack, a battle BGM pack and an item set designed to speed up character growth. The standard game is also sold separately across the listed console platforms.1
The launch timing
The console release is dated 15 October, while the Steam version is listed for 16 October. Steam’s store page still marks the PC edition as coming soon, so “launches tomorrow” is the accurate wording for that version rather than “out now”.3 The official site also lists a launch trailer and points readers towards the Tales Channel social accounts for further updates.1
The game follows recent remasters of other entries in the series, including Tales of Graces f, Tales of Xillia and Tales of Berseria. That gives the release a clear place in Bandai Namco’s wider effort to make older Tales adventures available on current platforms.2
Our opinion
The most interesting part of this release is its restraint. Tales of Eternia Remastered is not being sold as a wholesale remake: it keeps the story, characters and fast 2D combat intact, then adds the conveniences modern players are likely to miss. Destination markers and boost options matter in a long role-playing game, particularly when the original was built around a slower rhythm of exploration.
The staggered Steam launch is worth flagging because the console release and PC release are not interchangeable on day one. Console players can start today, while Steam users need to wait until tomorrow. Either way, this is a preservation-minded remaster that improves the rough edges without pretending the 2000-era adventure was something else.
