SULFUR reaches 500,000 sales ahead of full release

SULFUR has sold 500,000 copies in Early Access and is heading for its full launch and console debut on October 28.

SULFUR has reached 500,000 sales during its Steam Early Access run, with developer and publisher Perfect Random preparing the roguelike FPS for its full 1.0 launch and console debut on October 28, according to the latest announcement carried by 4Gamer.

The milestone arrives after roughly two years in Early Access. SULFUR combines fast first-person shooting with exploration, loot collection, weapon customisation and roguelike risk. Its world is built around hostile creatures, strange environments and a progression loop where the equipment brought into a run can be lost if the player fails. That makes every expedition a judgement call: push deeper for better rewards, or retreat with what you have already found.

The game’s arsenal includes more than 60 firearms, with attachments, oils and magical enchantments that can be combined into different builds. Between expeditions, players can cook, improve their equipment and organise their inventory before heading back out. Perfect Random describes the experience as a single-player action-adventure FPS, while its Steam listing also highlights RPG and simulation elements alongside the early-access label.

The 1.0 update is intended to complete the game’s central systems and progression, while also bringing large balance changes, optimisation work and control improvements. The same launch window adds console editions for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Japanese release information reported by 4Gamer lists a price of ¥3,980, although regional pricing and release timing can differ between platforms; the Nintendo eShop was listing October 29 rather than October 28 at the time of that report.

Perfect Random says free updates will continue after launch, including additional weapons and content. A multiplayer mode is being considered for the future, but it is not part of the 1.0 release. The studio is also considering downloadable content for 2027 and beyond.

On Steam, SULFUR is presented as a single-player game focused on adapting builds to enemies and environments rather than relying on one fixed loadout. The official store page lists Perfect Random as both developer and publisher, and links to the studio’s SULFUR website. That first-party material gives the sales milestone and launch plans a clearer source trail than a store-page listing alone, while the 4Gamer report supplies the platform-by-platform details.

Our opinion

A 500,000-sales milestone is meaningful here because SULFUR is not simply announcing a new game: it is closing a long Early Access chapter. The combination of a full launch, six console targets and continued free updates gives the October release a substantial second act. The sensible caveat is that the most important test is still the quality of the 1.0 finish. A successful transition needs to make the systems feel complete, not merely add a version number and more platforms. If Perfect Random delivers on its balance, optimisation and control promises, SULFUR’s unusually tactile mix of gunplay, loot and build experimentation has a strong foundation to grow from.
