Stellar Blade and Overwatch announce a new crossover

SHIFT UP has teased a Stellar Blade and Overwatch crossover, but the partners have not revealed its content or release date.

Stellar Blade and Overwatch are heading for a crossover, although the announcement has stopped short of revealing what that collaboration will actually contain.

SHIFT UP’s official Stellar Blade account announced the partnership on October 23, teasing a new meeting between the action adventure’s heroine Eve and Blizzard’s team shooter. The post did not identify a release date, participating characters, cosmetic items or any gameplay content. Those details are expected to follow in a later announcement. 1

What has been announced

The collaboration links Stellar Blade with Overwatch, a free-to-play, team-based shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Stellar Blade, meanwhile, follows Eve as she fights to reclaim a ruined Earth from hostile alien creatures. The two games occupy very different corners of the action genre, which makes the crossover’s format the main unanswered question for now.

The announcement also places the project in a growing line of Stellar Blade collaborations. The game has previously crossed over with NieR:Automata and GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE, while a Bayonetta costume is scheduled for November 6 alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 Complete Edition. Famitsu reported that the Overwatch collaboration was announced through Stellar Blade’s official social account, but noted that no further information has been released. 2

For now, it is safest to treat this as a collaboration tease rather than a confirmed DLC launch. It could eventually mean character outfits, an event, cosmetics or something more substantial, but none of those possibilities has been confirmed by SHIFT UP or Blizzard.

Our opinion

The announcement is intriguing precisely because it leaves the important part unresolved. Stellar Blade’s previous crossovers have centred on recognisable character designs and costumes, while Overwatch has an enormous roster built around sharply defined visual identities. That gives the partnership plenty of creative possibilities, but it also means the eventual reveal will matter more than the teaser itself. Until the partners explain what players will receive and when, this is a promising announcement rather than a fully formed game update.
