Free update to battle mode launches September 29
What we know
Nintendo announced during the Nintendo Direct livestream on Wednesday that Star Fox , a remake of Star Fox 64 with new graphics, new art style, a multiplayer option, and other gameplay additions, will get a free update to the Battle Mode on September 29. The company also added the 2002 Star Fox Adventures game to the library of the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics Switch Online Expansion Pack on the same day.
The update for Battle Mode will include split screens, new stages, four-player gameplay on a single Switch 2 game system, and more.
The game launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25.
Our opinion
Adding Star Fox Adventures to Nintendo Classics is welcome news for fans, particularly anyone who wants to revisit the GameCube-era experiment without hunting down old hardware. The free update is the useful part; it does not turn an archival addition into evidence of a new remake or a broader revival. The verdict is play if you already subscribe and remember the original fondly, otherwise wait for details about the service catalogue and controls. Nintendo is opening the door to an old adventure, not promising a new one. Keep expectations nostalgic rather than treating the update as a franchise announcement.
