Sega NET Mahjong MJ launches Haruhi collaboration
Sega NET Mahjong MJ’s new collaboration adds Haruhi-themed characters, music and rewards across its mobile, PC and arcade versions.
Sega’s network mahjong game Sega NET Mahjong MJ has started a collaboration event with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱), bringing the anime’s characters, music and visual motifs to both the mobile/PC version and the arcade edition of MJ. The “Haruhi Suzumiya Cup” began on October 26 and runs through November 15, according to the launch announcement carried by 4Gamer.
The collaboration is split across two qualifying rounds and a final. In the app version, Qualifier A runs from October 26 to November 1, Qualifier B follows from November 2 to November 8, and the final runs from November 9 to November 15. Players compete in both four-player and three-player mahjong formats, with scores determining who advances and who takes the top spot in the final.
Rewards include Haruhi-themed special characters, table backgrounds, win animations, effects and other customisation items. The mobile/PC game’s event-point rewards include an evolved UR Mikuru Asahina character, another special character, five table backgrounds, three EX backgrounds, two win buttons and a win effect. The backgrounds include references to Haruhi and Kyon as well as the SOS Brigade’s clubroom.
A limited-time Haruhi-themed gacha adds 52 collaboration items to the app. Alongside an evolved UR Haruhi character, it includes SSR and special characters, background items, win effects and music. The listed tracks include “Hare Hare Yukai” and “God knows...”, two songs closely associated with the anime’s enduring identity.
The arcade version, MJAC, runs its own qualifying rounds from October 26 to November 8, followed by a final from November 9 to November 15. Its rewards include functional special characters, table and EX backgrounds, and win sounds. The arcade gacha contains 28 collaboration items, including Haruhi, Yuki Nagato and other characters from the series.
Sega is also running an accompanying social-media campaign until November 8. Players can follow the official MJ account and repost the relevant post for a chance to win one of two Nendoroid Haruhi 2.0 figures. The promotion is limited to the Japanese campaign rules and shipping arrangements published by Sega, so readers outside Japan should check the official account before taking part.
The collaboration arrives during the anime’s 20th-anniversary year. The official anniversary website lists the wider “Haruhi no Onrei” project (涼宮ハルヒの御礼), including other events, merchandise and fan activities. That anniversary programme gives Sega’s mahjong crossover a broader context: it is part of an active push to keep the franchise visible rather than a standalone one-off character promotion.
Our opinion
This is a particularly good fit for MJ because the collaboration can turn recognisable anime details into things players actually use: characters, table designs, music and win effects. The split between mobile/PC and arcade rewards also gives the event enough variety to feel like more than a single themed skin. The catch is regional availability. The strongest rewards and the Nendoroid giveaway are tied to Japanese services and rules, so international fans may have to treat this as a showcase of the anniversary rather than an event they can easily enter.
