Football Manager 27 gets a free five-day preview before launch

Football Manager 27’s five-day Launch Preview will be free on PC and Mac from 29 October, with saves carrying into the full game.

Football Manager 27 will be free to play on PC and Mac for five days before its full launch, giving curious players a chance to try the new management simulation without pre-ordering. The Launch Preview runs from 6pm GMT on 29 October until 6pm GMT on 3 November, according to Sports Interactive and Sega’s announcement. 1

The preview will be available through Steam, Epic Games, the Microsoft Store, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass, with no sign-up or pre-order requirement. Players can download it during the window and begin building a save before the full release on 10 November. 1

This is more than a short demo. The preview includes the game’s full management experience for the event, and saves can carry forward into the paid launch or the additional preview access offered to people who pre-order. That makes the five-day window a proper test drive rather than a disposable slice of the finished game. 1

The timing also gives Sports Interactive a useful chance to win back players after Football Manager 26’s difficult transition to a new engine and redesigned navigation. The Sixth Axis reports that the studio has been showing off changes to the interface, match-day presentation and wider football-management systems in the run-up to Football Manager 27. 2

For players in the UK, the important detail is the start time: the free period begins at 6pm GMT on Thursday, 29 October. It ends at the same time on Tuesday, 3 November, one week before Football Manager 27 launches globally. The Steam store currently lists 10 November as the full release date. 1 3

Our opinion

A free preview with save carry-over is a sensible way for Sports Interactive to rebuild confidence. Football Manager is a game people can spend hundreds of hours learning, so letting players test the new interface and systems before committing is more useful than another tightly edited trailer. The catch is that the preview will also put the game’s most important changes under a microscope: if the new navigation still feels awkward, five free days will make that obvious very quickly.

The result is a low-risk opportunity for players and a high-stakes public demonstration for the studio. Football Manager 27 launches on 10 November, but the real verdict starts arriving when the Launch Preview opens on 29 October.
