Football Manager 27 gameplay walkthrough highlights new features

Sports Interactive's latest Football Manager 27 walkthrough explains the new Portal, training tools, match-day systems and Tactical Tweaks ahead of launch.

Football Manager 27's Portal interface showing squad management, tactics and training screens

Football Manager 27 is showing more of its new systems ahead of its 10 November launch, with Sports Interactive using a gameplay walkthrough to explain how the next edition will reshape the day-to-day work of running a club. The footage comes from a development build that is close to release, although the studio says final adjustments are still being made.1

A new home for the save

The Portal acts as the central hub, bringing swappable tiles, bookmarks and shortcuts into one place. The refreshed news area is designed to keep managers closer to major football stories, upcoming fixtures and developments beyond their own club. That should make the opening routine of a save less dependent on repeatedly checking separate screens.1

Training has also been given a more practical focus. Managers can plan sessions around upcoming opponents and copy a full week of training, reducing the amount of repetitive setup involved in a longer career. Tactical Effectiveness is another prominent addition, offering gauges intended to show how well a squad is carrying out its chosen style. The walkthrough links those warnings to training, scouting and recruitment screens, so a weakness should be easier to act on rather than simply observe.1

Match-day changes

The presentation also highlights refreshed stadiums, lighting, weather effects and cutscenes. Player movement has been updated with motion capture, including skill moves, defensive positioning and attacking runs. Touchline shouts are now meant to affect player focus differently depending on personality, adding another consideration when trying to change the mood of a match.1

During games, shot maps, heat maps, action zones and expected goals remain available for managers who want a deeper statistical read. Tactical Tweaks is built for quicker reactions, allowing several instructions to be changed for the team or an individual player without forcing a complete tactical overhaul. After the whistle, new summary views bring together standings, performers, competition results and progress against season expectations.1

Football Manager 27 is listed on Steam for 10 November, with the store page describing the release as a new iteration built around greater control and discovery.2 Sports Interactive says more details will follow across platforms before launch, so some interface and feature details may still change between this walkthrough and the final build.

Our opinion

This looks like a sensible refinement of the management loop rather than a single headline gimmick. The strongest changes are the ones that connect information to an action: Tactical Effectiveness points towards training or recruitment, while Tactical Tweaks reduces the friction of responding mid-match. That could make the extra detail feel useful instead of merely adding more dashboards, provided the final interface keeps those routes clear. The November launch will show whether the improvements make everyday saves more readable without taking away the series' depth.
