Scramble Knights Online launches as an MMO-lite adventure

Funktronic Labs has launched its feedback-driven MMO-lite adventure on Xbox and PC, with Xbox Game Pass access and Early Access development still ahead.

Scramble Knights Online has launched on October 26, 2026, bringing Funktronic Labs’ colourful online action RPG to Xbox Series X|S and PC. The Xbox release is available through Game Pass, while the PC version is available through Steam and the Microsoft Store. 1

The launch marks a change of direction for the project. Funktronic Labs says the game began as Scramble Knights Royale, a battle-royale concept, before playtest feedback pushed the team towards exploration, quests and adventuring with friends. The result is being positioned as an MMO-lite rather than a traditional, massively populated MMO. 1

What changed from the original concept

The game’s current structure centres on a shared world, co-operative expeditions and a more approachable action-RPG loop. Players can explore the world, take on quests and fight through dungeons with friends, rather than simply competing to be the last player standing. The official campaign material describes the experience as a social adventure built around combat, exploration and progression. 12

Funktronic Labs has also said that the project is entering Early Access with its first playable area and a longer development roadmap still ahead. The developer’s plan is to use that period to expand the world and respond to player feedback, so the launch version is better understood as the beginning of the game’s public development than as a finished endpoint. 1

Platforms, access and the road ahead

Scramble Knights Online is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with cross-platform access helping players form groups across the supported versions. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play it as part of the service, while PC players can find it through the listed PC storefronts. The game’s official site presents its fantasy setting and co-operative structure as the core of the experience. 12

The most notable part of this launch is the attempt to keep the social appeal of an MMO while reducing the commitment that often comes with one. A smaller group, a clearer adventure loop and a world that can be explored with friends could give the game a more welcoming identity. Whether that structure has enough variety to support a long Early Access period will depend on how quickly Funktronic Labs turns its feedback-led plans into substantial new content.

Our opinion

Scramble Knights Online is more interesting as a course correction than as another online launch. Funktronic Labs has taken feedback about its original battle-royale direction and used it to build around exploration and co-operative play instead. That gives the game a clearer audience: players who want the shared-world feel of an MMO without needing a huge guild or a second job to keep up. The important test now is whether the Early Access roadmap can make that promise feel bigger over time, rather than simply repeating the same small loop with new decoration.
