Gears of War: E-Day update adds fixes and Halloween modes
The October 26 update fixes campaign, Horde Siege and Versus problems while bringing pumpkin-headed chaos to Gears of War: E-Day.
A new Gears of War: E-Day update adds campaign, Horde Siege and Versus fixes alongside a limited-time Halloween event. The patch also addresses Xbox Cloud Gaming settings and sign-in problems.1
Campaign and stability fixes
The update fixes a detached camera, a stuck Visual Navigation Aid, a train car that could block a secondary objective and missing dialogue in the campaign. It also improves stability and crash reduction, fixes a T-pose issue after blind firing from cover, and corrects Xbox Cloud Gaming settings that could default to Quality. Incorrect system date and time settings should no longer prevent sign-in.1
Horde Siege and Versus
Horde Siege players should no longer be blocked from closing E-Holes when another squad completes the objective, and one player failing to load should not kick the whole server. Ranked Versus matches now wait two minutes before dissolving after a disconnected player fails to return. The patch also fixes inaccessible Demolition bombs and an incorrectly awarded Killjoy ribbon.1
The team is still investigating freezes and crashes during long sessions. It is also working on a hotfix for a Smoke Grenade exploit that reveals players through cover. The patch notes say enforcement action has been taken against exploiters and other cheaters, including aimbot users.1
Halloween arrives in E-Day
Versus Trick-or-Treat gives players pumpkin heads and the Jack-o-Cannon, with special weapons and tricks hidden around maps. Horde Siege adds the Boogeyman and glowing pumpkin-themed enemies. Both limited-time modes offer event rewards.1
Our opinion
This is useful maintenance rather than a flashy content drop, but the Halloween modes give players a reason to return immediately. The campaign fixes target progress-stopping bugs, while the multiplayer changes address failures that can waste an entire session. The remaining crash investigation and Smoke Grenade exploit matter because they show this patch is not the final word on E-Day’s rough edges. The seasonal content makes the update more visible, but the quieter fixes are its real value: corrected objectives, fewer sign-in problems and less fragile multiplayer sessions. A later hotfix will need to finish the job on stability.
