CTW's Scimagic is a free-to-play isekai roguelite

CTW's new original IP drops a modern scientist into a world run on magic, with pre-registration open on the G123 browser platform and an in-game ally unlocked at 50,000 sign-ups.

CTW has announced Scimagic: The Magic World Is Bugged, Fix It With Science!, an original free-to-play roguelite RPG built for the G123 browser platform. Pre-registration is open now through G123, Discord and X, and the game is CTW's own new intellectual property rather than a licence.

A scientist dropped into a world of magic

The premise is an isekai with a method to its madness. A modern-day scientist lands in a world run on magic and starts applying science to it, joined by companions drawn from legendary figures in the history of science. Each run reshuffles the stages, the enemies and the Discoveries that rewrite your abilities mid-run, so a build is assembled from whatever a run hands you rather than unlocked from a fixed tree.

What pre-registration unlocks

CTW has tied the launch reward to sign-ups: if pre-registrations reach 50,000, every participant receives Archimedes as their first in-game ally when Scimagic goes live. A giveaway running on X and Instagram accompanies the reveal, with Amazon gift cards going to 45 winners across three tiers.

Our opinion

Browser roguelites live and die on how quickly a run becomes legible, and CTW has the advantage of a premise that explains itself in a sentence: science against magic. The risk is the one every free-to-play G123 title carries, in that the loop has to feel generous before the pre-registration crowd arrives rather than after it. If the Discoveries are as varied as the reveal suggests, the sign-up ally is a sensible carrot. If they are not, 50,000 registrations will simply measure curiosity.
