Saros Zenith update adds New Game+, boss rush and accessibility options

Housemarque’s free Zenith update is now available for Saros on PlayStation 5, adding a sizeable set of replayable challenges alongside options designed to make its projectile-heavy combat easier to approach. ¹

The update’s biggest addition is Eclipse Layers, a New Game Plus mode that unlocks after clearing the game. Each layer changes the rules and adds prerequisites, while new modifiers let players tune the challenge. Housemarque has added 10 Protection modifiers for extra help and a separate set of Trial modifiers for players looking to make runs harsher. ¹²

Players can now slow the game speed manually or automatically, giving them more time to read incoming attacks. The update also adds auto-fire while aiming at a hostile, motion-sensor aiming and control remapping. Reloading still uses a timed button press, so the options reduce pressure without removing every demand of the combat system. ¹

New modes and story content

Overlord Rush is a boss-rush mode built around short runs and leaderboards. Its sets escalate from three-boss challenges to Totality, a continuous gauntlet against all eight Overlords. Eclipse Layers also contain 12 new story Visions, giving repeat runs a narrative thread as well as score-chasing goals. ¹

Housemarque says the update is free for all Saros owners. The studio described the accessibility changes as a way to welcome newcomers without compromising the combat system’s identity, while the new modes give veteran players reasons to return to Carcosa. ¹

Our opinion

Zenith is the kind of post-launch update Saros needed. It adds a proper reason to return, but it also recognises that bullet-heavy combat can be intimidating without sanding away what makes the game distinctive. Slower game speed and remapping should give newcomers room to learn, while Eclipse Layers and Overlord Rush offer veterans new mastery tests. Making the package free strengthens the proposition further: this is a meaningful expansion of the game, not a thin event designed to keep players busy for a weekend. ¹²
