Square Enix has revealed new details about Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, the upcoming remake that expands the classic RPG with full 3D visuals, new companions and deeper systems. The information comes from a media kit reported by PlayStation LifeStyle, ahead of the game’s 16 February 2027 release.

What is changing

The remake adds new travelling companions, including The Minstrel, Tatyana, Nora, Muse and Charl. Square Enix has also announced English and Japanese voice casts for the characters, giving the expanded adventure a more fully produced presentation than the original release.

Players will be able to raise a renown rank while exploring, unlocking perks such as expanded United Attacks. The Pidona Workshop lets players forge and reforge equipment, while smiths found across the world can expand the facility. Party members can be changed at a pub or save point rather than being locked into a single travelling group.

Combat is also gaining new layers. Battlefields can develop a Ley Line affinity tied to a magic element, strengthening spells from the matching school. New formations include Triple Incisors and Rampaging Mammoth, while the mascot Mr. S can be found around the world and rewards players with stickers and related bonuses.

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game, three-day early access, additional costumes and equipment, battle music controls, formations and several item packs. Pre-orders receive Tatyana’s Piggy Bank and Robin’s “How to be a Hero” primer, while save data from Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven unlocks Leon’s Crown.

The remake is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix has also confirmed that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has passed one million units shipped and digitally sold worldwide, making it the first game in the series to reach that milestone since SaGa Frontier.

Our opinion

The most promising part of these details is the attempt to make the remake feel like a substantial expansion rather than a cosmetic upgrade. Workshop progression, party flexibility and elemental battlefields could give the older systems more room to breathe, while the new companions offer a clearer reason to revisit the journey. The proof will come when the full 3D presentation and added mechanics are tested together, but the February release now has a much more distinct identity.
