Final Fantasy 7: Dear Destiny novel launches in spring 2027

Square Enix’s new hardcover novel follows Aerith and Tifa before Final Fantasy 7’s main story, with a spring 2027 release window.

Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Dear Destiny, a new novel centred on Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockhart. The hardcover is listed for spring 2027, with pre-orders open through the publisher’s North American store.

What the novel covers

According to Square Enix, the book follows Aerith and Tifa before the main narrative of Final Fantasy 7. Tifa is dealing with painful memories of Nibelheim while working at Seventh Heaven and avoiding the Turks’ investigation into Avalanche. Aerith is selling flowers in Midgar while worrying about someone close to her. The story also includes a bonus short story set during Cloud’s time as a Shinra trooper.

Square Enix describes Dear Destiny as a sequel to Traces of Two Pasts, the novel that explored the earlier lives of the same two characters. The publisher’s listing identifies Kazushige Nojima as the author and confirms that the new volume is a hardcover novel in English.

The publisher’s store lists the book at $26.99 and labels its cover art as not final. A GameRant report says a March 16, 2027 date had appeared in pre-order information, but Square Enix’s own current product page gives the less specific spring 2027 window. That publisher listing is the safer date to use until Square Enix confirms a final day.

Why it matters

Dear Destiny expands the wider Final Fantasy 7 story beyond the remake trilogy without making the novel a required detour for players. Its focus on Aerith and Tifa gives the book a clear character-led angle, while the Cloud bonus story ties it back to the game’s central timeline.

Our opinion

A spring release window is all Square Enix has firmly put on its own store page, so the story is worth watching rather than treating the March date as locked. The premise is more substantial than a simple tie-in: Aerith and Tifa’s parallel lives, plus the Cloud-era bonus story, give readers three useful reasons to care. The unfinished cover is a small caveat, but the official listing makes the announcement concrete.

For now, fans can pre-order the hardcover and expect more precise release information when Square Enix updates the product page.
