Y'shtola joins Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy on 26 October, while an Original Soundtrack Plus album follows four days later.

Square Enix is adding Y'shtola from Final Fantasy XIV to Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy on 26 October, with a new character trailer showing off her attacks. The mobile fighting game is also getting an Original Soundtrack Plus album on 30 October. 12

Y'shtola joins the roster

Y'shtola is the latest Final Fantasy character to enter Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy. Square Enix’s trailer focuses on her combat abilities and special attacks, continuing the character-preview format previously used for additions such as Lightning and Clive. 1

The new arrival comes as Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy continues building a roster around warriors from across the Final Fantasy series. Y'shtola is best known for her role in Final Fantasy XIV, making her arrival a particularly notable addition for fans of Square Enix’s long-running online RPG.

The game is already available on iOS and Android. Y'shtola’s arrival is therefore an update to an existing mobile title rather than a launch announcement, with the character scheduled to become available on 26 October. 1

A soundtrack expansion is also on the way

Square Enix has separately announced an Original Soundtrack Plus album for 30 October. A full tracklist has not yet been detailed, but the release is expected to collect music added through updates or tracks that were not included on the main soundtrack. 2

That makes the week a double update for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy: a new playable character for people still logging into the game, and a music release aimed at listeners who want more of its score beyond the original album.

Our opinion

Y'shtola is a strong choice for the next Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy update because she brings a character with a substantial fanbase and a recognisable combat identity. The trailer-led reveal also gives players something concrete to assess before the update arrives, rather than relying on a brief roster tease.

The soundtrack announcement is less detailed for now, but pairing it with the character release keeps the game in the conversation across two different parts of Final Fantasy fandom. The important test will be whether Y'shtola feels like a meaningful addition in play, rather than simply another familiar face in a crowded crossover cast.
