Final Fantasy 40th anniversary tour takes Distant Worlds to Carnegie Hall
The Distant Worlds concert series will mark 40 years of Final Fantasy with a world tour that opens in Tokyo on 20 March 2027 and closes in Indianapolis in March 2028.

Final Fantasy turns 40 next year, and the series' long-running orchestral tour is marking the milestone with a year of concerts. Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy opens its anniversary run at Tokyo International Forum Hall A on 20 March 2027 and continues to a closing date at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis on 25 March 2028, according to the tour's official schedule.
Tokyo first, then North America, London and Asia
The announced route takes in Osaka on 27 and 28 March 2027, Los Angeles on 3 April, Minneapolis on 17 April, Denver on 24 April, Atlanta on 6 and 7 May, Vancouver on 18 and 19 June, New York's Carnegie Hall on 25 and 26 June, Pittsburgh on 31 July and Chicago on 10 and 11 September. The tour then crosses to the Royal Albert Hall in London on 25 September, Singapore's Star Theatre on 23 October and two nights in Seoul on 30 and 31 October, before Portland on 11 and 12 November and Washington DC on 11 December. The final leg lands in Houston on 22 January 2028 and Indianapolis on 25 March 2028. Three earlier dates are already listed for this winter: St Louis on 5 December 2026, Austin on 12 December 2026 and Detroit on 6 January 2027.
Arnie Roth returns to the podium
Conductor Arnie Roth leads a symphony orchestra, chorus and soloists, with newly produced high-definition video projections from Square Enix accompanying the music. The programme draws on four decades of the series' soundtracks, from the Prelude theme that has opened Final Fantasy games since 1987 to the cues that first introduced players to Midgar. Roth has led Distant Worlds since the tour began in 2007, which makes the anniversary run the project's most ambitious itinerary to date.
How to get tickets
The official schedule lists St Louis, Austin and Detroit as on sale now. Carnegie Hall tickets go on sale on 6 October at 11am Eastern, with Los Angeles and Atlanta following on 9 October. The remaining dates, including the UK and Asia, are listed as ticket information coming soon.
Our opinion
Forty years is a long time to keep an orchestra on the road, and Distant Worlds has quietly become one of the most dependable live acts in games. The interesting part of this anniversary run is its framing: it sets the Prelude theme's 40 years against the 30 years since Final Fantasy VII's opening, which is the series admitting that its modern identity still orbits a single 1997 disc. Carnegie Hall is the real statement of intent. Putting Nobuo Uematsu's melodies on that stage, with Square Enix's own video production behind them, is a reminder that game music stopped needing to justify a concert hall a long time ago. If the anniversary dates sell, expect the tour to keep running past the birthday itself.
