Really Illegal Golf turns the back nine into a heist
No More Robots is publishing Pushlab Games' multiplayer golf heist game, and a playable demo is live on Steam right now.
Golf has spent decades pretending to be a gentlemen's game. Really Illegal Golf has decided it would be much more fun as a break-in. Pushlab Games announced the multiplayer heist golf game during the PC Gaming Show: Tokyo Direct broadcast on 20 September, published by No More Robots, and the playable demo went live on Steam at the same time.
The premise comes straight from the developer's own announcement: \"Really Illegal Golf puts you in the shoes of a bunch of rowdy idiots, who went a little too hard at their local golf club, and had their memberships revoked.\" Rather than take it on the chin, they break in at night and play the worst round of their lives.
What you actually do
You play solo or with friends, either racing each other or working together to take the guards out of the picture. Security, patrols and CCTV all have to be avoided, obstacles are scattered across every hole, and the answer to most of them is to hit a ball into the problem. There is a customisable arsenal for the parts that a golf ball will not solve, with the announcement cheerfully offering a choice between a taser and a grenade.
The courses get harder as you go, and the developer warns that the military will not appreciate you using their land for target practice. On Steam the store page lists it as action, adventure, indie and sports, with online PvP for up to four players and full controller support. It is due in the first quarter of 2027.
Our opinion
The heist genre and the golf genre have been circling each other for years without anyone committing, and the pitch here is exactly the kind of stupid that works: take the most polite sport in the world and make the players trespassers. The demo being live on announcement day is the smart part, because a game this dependent on ragdoll chaos and shared laughter has to prove its comedy in your hands rather than in a trailer. No More Robots has a decent record with odd little games, and Q1 2027 is close enough that this could get genuinely silly in a good way.
