Planet Zoo 2 update 1.0.6 fixes runaway zoo finances
Frontier’s 1.0.6 patch tackles runaway habitat costs, accreditation requirements, animal behaviour, staff routines and a long list of stability issues.
Planet Zoo 2 has received update 1.0.6, with Frontier targeting the financial problems that could leave some zoos spiralling into debt. The patch launched on 23 October across all platforms and also adjusts progression, animal behaviour, staff tasks, saving and stability.1
The financial fixes
The update addresses excessive habitat-repair costs and resets the cash reserves of zoos with a negative balance. Frontier has also lowered several accreditation requirements: accreditation 3 now needs a two-star nature reserve rather than three stars, while accreditation 4 drops from four stars to three. Accreditation 5 also requires one fewer zoo and nature reserve.1
The changes should make progression less punishing for players whose finances were being consumed by repairs rather than expansion. Frontier says species unlocks have also been rebalanced, with easier-to-maintain vivarium animals and fish becoming available earlier.
Franchise, animals and staff
In Franchise mode, animals sold quickly should no longer return to storage, conservation credits from vivarium animals now persist after reloading, and the quick-release option for some habitat animals has been restored. Frontier has also corrected a problem that could prevent automatic saving after visiting the Planet Hub.1
Animal fixes include lower vivarium fertility, fewer aquarium transfers and a correction for animals jumping through glass tunnels. The patch also reworks several animations and addresses aquatic animals reacting incorrectly to extreme temperatures. Heating and air-conditioning units no longer affect aquarium temperatures, although their tooltips will continue to say otherwise until a later update.
Staff should now behave more reliably around feeders, cleaning and rest rooms. If a transport destination is removed, an employee will leave its crate on the route instead of wandering indefinitely. New notifications also flag disconnected facilities and habitats without available cleaners or repair workers.
Stability and remaining issues
Frontier has fixed several crashes linked to multiple selection, colour history, educational panels and habitat service doors. The patch also addresses path-stamp tool freezes, controller tool switching and flickering when DLSS Frame Generation and HDR are enabled together.1
Sandbox mode receives further corrections for ageing, births, vegetation needs, predation, fear and waste. Construction tools regain correct alignment on advanced movement axes, while the Zoopedia once again respects the display setting for unowned DLC species.
Frontier says animal movement, climbing, jumping, enrichment alignment and unusual habitat escapes remain under investigation. The studio plans to update its priority-issues article at the start of the week of 26 October after reviewing the weekend’s reports.1
Our opinion
Update 1.0.6 is the kind of maintenance patch Planet Zoo 2 needs early in its life: it tackles the economy and progression systems that can undermine an otherwise relaxing management game, rather than focusing only on visible glitches. The fixes are broad, but Frontier’s note that some animal and creation-tool problems remain is important. This is a substantial repair pass, not a claim that every rough edge has disappeared.
