Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launch trailer previews 12 sports
Nintendo's new Switch 2 sports resort launches on October 22 with 12 events, Island Crown, Pro League and Casual Online Play.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is nearly ready to open its doors, with Nintendo publishing a launch trailer ahead of the game's October 22 release on Switch 2. The trailer presents the resort as a broader follow-up to the original Nintendo Switch Sports formula, combining familiar motion-controlled events with new ways to explore Wuhu Island. 1
What the launch trailer shows
The game includes 12 sports, ranging from Boxing, Table Tennis, Archery, Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, Basketball, Golf and Jump Rope to newer activities such as Skateboarding, Power Cruising, Prop Plane and Thumb Wrestling. Nintendo says Joy-Con 2 controllers can act as bows, rackets and handlebars, depending on the event. 1
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort also adds an Island Crown mode. Each discipline has a champion to beat, with a seasoned master waiting beyond that first challenge. The trailer frames the mode as a more structured solo and competitive pursuit than simply playing a quick match.
Online play is split between the ranked Pro League and Casual Online Play. The former matches players at similar levels and lets them climb from E upwards, while the latter keeps wins and losses out of the record. Local multiplayer and online play are both supported, with the game also offering unlockable clothing, hairstyles and sporting equipment through the rotating Item Center. 1
The official Nintendo America trailer is embedded below. Nintendo's store listing confirms that Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 and launches on October 22. 2
Our opinion
This looks like a sensible expansion rather than a cosmetic sequel. The important addition is not just another batch of motion-control sports: Island Crown, Pro League and the more relaxed Casual Online Play give the resort several reasons to keep coming back after the novelty of the launch-day activities wears off. The October 22 release will show whether those modes have enough variety to sustain that promise.
