Monster Hunter Wilds’ free Switch 2 Prologue Demo launches on 19 October, with local play and save transfer to the full game.

Monster Hunter Wilds is getting a free Prologue Demo on Nintendo Switch 2 on 19 October, giving players a short introduction to Capcom’s latest hunt before the full game arrives on 4 December.1

The demo covers the opening section of the game, including the prologue and the “To the Forest” mission. Progress made in the demo can be carried into the full release, so players will not have to start from scratch when the main game launches.2

What the demo includes

The Prologue Demo is designed as a first taste of Monster Hunter Wilds. It supports local play, allowing people with access to a Switch 2 to hunt together in the same room. Online multiplayer is not available in the demo, however, so online groups will need to wait for the full game.1

Capcom’s Switch 2 version is scheduled to launch on 4 December. Digital pre-orders are due to open on 19 October, the same day the free demo becomes available.1

The Switch 2 release will also be followed by the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion in 2027. Capcom has previously confirmed full cross-platform play and a Game-Key Card version for the Nintendo release.1

Our opinion

A free opening slice is a sensible way to introduce the Switch 2 audience to Monster Hunter Wilds, especially when save transfer removes the usual fear of wasting time in a trial version. The local-play restriction is worth knowing before a group downloads it, but the 19 October release still gives prospective hunters several weeks to decide whether the December launch belongs on their calendar.
