Monster Hunter Rise passes 20 million copies sold
Capcom's Switch-first hunting game keeps climbing more than five years after launch, with the celebratory artwork arriving alongside a discount on the eShop.

Monster Hunter Rise has sold more than 20 million copies, Capcom's official Monster Hunter account announced on 6 October, more than five years after the game arrived on Nintendo Switch in March 2021.
The milestone came with celebratory dango artwork from the development team and a note that the game is discounted on the Nintendo eShop and beyond, with a thank-you to the hunters of Kamura.
Where the number comes from
Capcom's own Platinum Titles table listed Monster Hunter Rise at 19.30 million units for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, so the new figure marks roughly 700,000 further sales in the months since. The same table puts the Sunbreak expansion at 11.90 million units.
A handheld-first game that travelled
Rise began on Nintendo Switch and later reached PC, PlayStation and Xbox hardware. It sits behind Monster Hunter: World, which Capcom lists at 30.40 million units including the Iceborne Master Edition, and comfortably ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds at 11.80 million.
Our opinion
Twenty million is a strange sort of vindication for a game built around the Switch's limits. Rise was the handheld-first Monster Hunter, with shorter hunts, wirebug traversal and a village hub designed for pick-up sessions, and at the time plenty of players treated it as a stopgap between World and Wilds. The sales curve says otherwise. The number has kept climbing long after the ports and the expansion, which is what tends to happen when a game finds an audience that does not upgrade hardware on schedule. Capcom's problem is no longer proving that Rise belongs in the series; it is resisting the urge to sell it to us a third time.
